L’Héritage Maudit is a point-and-click adventure created during a game jam in 2015. It follows Anne Jezequel, a writer who inherits a large house in Brittany. She leaves Paris to find rest and inspiration there, but strange events disturb her stay.
Four colours to tell a story
The game has a retro aesthetic, with a CGA palette limited to four colours. Backgrounds, characters and dialogue share this visual constraint, giving the adventure its identity.
There were three of us on the project: two artists and me handling the programming. Working together meant bringing scenes, interactions and dialogue into a functioning game that served a shared story.
An engine for point-and-click adventures
The web version uses Atlantis.js, my custom JavaScript engine. The project also includes native work in C++ with SDL3: another opportunity to explore the foundations of an adventure game engine and revisit an existing game.
The prologue is playable in a browser on itch.io. The GitLab repository contains the project’s source code.
